About

Lewis and Clark, Yankton, SD

The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center in Yankton, South Dakota is located atop historic Calumet Bluff. It was here that the famed explorers and their party received a warm welcome from the Yankton Sioux, engaging in two ceremonial smokings of the "pipe of peace" as well as a feast complete with music and dance.

JNPA's support here helps sustain educational programs and exhibits about the Lewis and Clark expedition, as well as the area's natural and cultural history. Other exhibits topics include Native Americans, steamboats and local geology.  Visitors also enjoy the Dorian Prairie Garden and Lewis and Clark Interpretive walk as well as the many recreational activities in the area including hiking, biking, fishing and more.

Visit the official U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website of Lewis and Clark Visitor Center.
