About
Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site
White Haven is the former home of Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president of the United States and celebrated Civil War general. Restored to its 1875 appearance, buildings on the property include the main house, a stone summer kitchen, an icehouse, and a chicken house. The historic stable will serve as an exhibit gallery. A new Visitor Center opened in 2005, and houses an information desk, theater, classroom, rest rooms, and park offices in addition to the JNPA sales area."
On-site interpretive staff specializes in the personal lives of the former president, his wife Julia and his family. In addition to originally purchasing the property and donating it to the National Park Service, today JNPA's support helps maintain the educational elements of the site, including a variety of special events and interpretive programs.
